Jewish cemetery

The Jewish cemetery was located quite far from the edge of the town. It was located at the foot of the road leading to Šibeničný Hill. It's likely that the cemetery was also used for burying people from the surrounding area.

Unfortunately, neither the fence nor the entrance gate, which some locals remember as being made of metal, have survived. The exact path leading to the cemetery is also unknown.

All that remains of the cemetery today is a damaged fragment. Over the years, it has suffered a lot of wear and tear due to the weather, age, and human activity. The cemetery has even been looted, and many gravestones have been destroyed.

Among the symbols still visible on the gravestones of the Svätý Kríž Jewish cemetery are a weeping willow tree and a broken rose in a laurel wreath.

It's believed that one of the last burials there was for a lady named Berta Deutelbaum, though her gravestone is no longer there. During the Holocaust, members of the Jewish community from our town were deported to concentration camps, where many of them were killed, often as early as 1942.
