Synagogue

The Neologian synagogue in Žiar nad Hronom was built in 1888. At that time, it was located on the outskirts of Svätý Kríž; today, it is on the main street, SNP. Nearby, there was a Christian cemetery, which no longer exists today.

The synagogue served its function until 1942. That year, it was "aryanized" as property of the Jewish religious community and forcibly rebuilt. Its remnants are still hidden in the attic space of a residential building, which currently houses the DSS Doména facility. Even before the establishment of the social services home in the building, a local soup kitchen was located there. Many residents of the town are unaware of the prayer hall hidden behind the walls of the DSS Doména building.
